Los Che vice-president Fernando Gomez revealed yesterday that talks had taken place between Valencia and City about a proposed summer switch from the Mestalla to the Eastlands Stadium, with the Spanish side tipped to sell their top players at the end of the campaign due to serious financial trouble at the club.
However, Gomez did concede that no offer had been made by the Premiership club for 27-year-old Villa, with the EURO 2008 Winner’s agent, Jose Luis Tarmago declaring that the prolific forward will remain in Spain.
“He will not move from Spain, he's very clear on that,” he told Spanish sports daily El Mundo Deportivo.
Villa only signed a new deal with Los Che last August and is under contract at the Mestalla until 2014, with the striker the most prized asset at the Spanish side and could set a new world record transfer fee if sold in the summer.
The news that Villa is not keen on leaving La Liga, will come as a blow for City, who would have had no trouble finding any huge fee for the striker due to the backing at the Eastlands club of the super-wealthy ADUG.
Tamargo went on to claim that any transfer for the striker will not come down to money and reiterated Villa’s desire to stay in Spain, which will increase speculation that the striker is destined for the Nou Camp and Barcelona at the end of the season.
He added: “I don't know what type of contact there has been between them, if there has been, nor any agreements that could be made but his future will not be outside the country.
“It's not a question of money.”
It is claimed in some quarters that the Spaniard already has a verbal agreement in place with the Blaugrana, with City set to miss out on another world star at the Eastlands, which will frustrate the ADUG, who are determined to turn the Blue half of Manchester into a major force at home and in Europe.
