Arsenal Boss Eyes Summer Triple Swoop To Spark French Revolution At The Emirates

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger seems to be determined to add to the French ranks at the Premier League club in the summer, with Lille midfielder Yohan Cabaye the latest French player to be tipped for a move to the Emirates Stadium at the end of the campaign.

Recent reports have linked the Gunners boss with Sebastien Bassong at Premiership rivals Newcastle United, while Arsenal are also understood to want Mamadou Sakho at Lille’s Ligue 1 rivals paris St Germain, with 19-year-old Sakho being hailed as the new Marcel Desailly in France.

Arsenal’s interest in Cabaye has been well documented, with the North London club heavily linked with the midfielder during the January transfer window and are now understood to be ready to make a swoop for the Lille midfielder, who is under contract at the Stadium Lille-Metropole until 2013 in the summer.

23-year-old Cabaye is valued at £6.25million by transfermarket.co.uk, with the French Under-21 International, who has made over 100 appearances for Les Dogues since his debut in 2004, declaring that while he remains focused on Lille’s push for qualification to the Champions League, no one could refuse to play for Arsenal.

“I will try to finish the season well with the objective of a European qualification. Then I will take stock,” Cabye told Aujourd’hui Sport.

“Arsenal’s interest? It is very flattering, but I am under contract and I don’t know of any contact. Once again I am completely focused on the pitch.

“Would I be attracted? Of course, no one could refuse that. Anyway, I don’t think about it.”

Should Cabaye arrive at the Emirates in the summer along with Sakho and Bassong, Wenger will be hoping the trio can have a similar impact to previous French players at Arsenal, with Patrick Vieira, Emmanuel Petit, Robert Pires and Gunners all-time top-scorer Thierry Henry helping the Gunners to many trophies during their time in North London.
