Ipswich Town Seal Loan-Deal With Spurs For Former Barcelona Star After Walters Ruled-Out For Season

Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Giovani Dos Santos has secured a loan-move to Championship side Ipswich Town until the end of the 2008/09 season after Jon Walters was ruled-out for the rest of the season.

25-year-old Waters has been sidelined until the close-season with ruptured ankle ligaments, meaning Ipswich Town boss Jim Magilton has had to bring in Spurs striker Giovani Dos Santos on-loan for the rest of the season to replace the injured Walters.

19-year-old Mexican International Dos Santos moved to Spurs from Barcelona in June 2008, but has struggled to find a regular first-team place with the Premier League side, and Spurs boss Harry Redknapp advised Dos Santos to take the opportunity of regular first-team football by joining Ipswich in their quest to secure a play-off place.

Magilton told the official Ipswich Town website: "Losing Jon is obviously a blow for us and we wanted to bring in someone to replace him. I'm delighted that we have managed to do that so quickly.

"Gio has got a great pedigree having been at Barcelona and playing 30-odd games for them and I know there was a lot of interest in him last summer.

"He's played games for Tottenham in the Premier League and in Europe and he will bring some added quality to the squad.

"He is with us for the rest of the season and will go straight into the squad for the Reading game and be in contention to play."
